Studying
week by week
for a particular assignment - the bigger learning
choose assignment first and focus on that
serious academic bibliography
be selective, pick chapters based on contents, intro, conclusion etc.
pay attention to the end of the intro that may well list focus of each chapter
conclusion may tell you a concise summary
be careful about reading a middle chunk out of context, refer to the intro and conclusion to check
Writing
Own opinions ok, because …
keep quotations short and use for evidence not to make own point for you
better to summarise and still footnote
credit is for own understanding not for point made by someone else
