Of David, Written well before psalm 25
Perhaps when he was in the run from Saul
A sense of God that is not just general or vague but tangible.
How do you live your life standing in the presence of God?
- remember his unfailing love V3 thru scripture, testimony, worship
- “all my days you have been faithful”
- rely on god v1,3: fwd looking
- No tengo mierdo
- rejoice V8,12
- A sense in which we only appropriate the truth by speaking it out , like man and woman confirming live in spoken marriage vows
- V4-7 David has perhaps been enabled to make a lot of good choices but still fundamentally declaring his own righteousness
- See also Luke 18 Pharisee’s prayer
- reflect
V11 I’ve led a blameless life, deliver me. But also v2 Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind;
Psalms are the heart felt outpouring of heart: anger, selfish, doubting. Rule 1 in prayer is to be honest with God.
V2 reflects how David thinks he’s doing ok but allows that his feelings may be deceiving him so he needs god to correct him.
Although psalm 25 appears before 26 but his complacency in 26 is completely shattered. Even more so in Psalm 51 after the incident with Bathsheba
To recap, David’s prayers teach us a few things
- Be honest whatever your opinion of yourself.
- Be open to God ’s correction
- Be confident in god’s grace
